ECSC, 2010

So ECSC is a 47 year old surfing event that has taken place in Virginia Beach for the past 45 years.  Today, ECSC is a major amateur event for the United States Surfing Federation. Each year, several hundred amateurs compete for East Coast surfing titles, prizes, history and the sheer love of surfing. Other beach sports and recreation include skim boarding, volleyball, a boardwalk 5K run, street skate and ramp contests, free-style motor cross, food and drink concessions, live music on the beach, and more.

The weather was perfect and there was no other place for us to spend our Sunday as a family.  So we headed down to the beach to meet up with some friends.  By 10am the events were in full swing & the surf was epic.  We landed a great spot on the beach and could see the surfing & skim boarding competition & free surf area…sheer perfection.  Except for the fact that my oldest son was looking kind of pale & said he was freezing (and yes, he eventually barfed).  My husband, who has surfed since he was 12, was having an out of body experience because honestly, the waves aren’t really all that consistently great in Virginia Beach.  But today, thanks to tropical storm Danielle, they were epic.  So we quickly made the call that my youngest & I would stay to hang out with our friends that we had not seen in a while and take-in the events of the day.  Travis would take our oldest home to mend.  While at home he packed up his surfing gear and waited, with baited breath, for my call to come pick us up.  Trav eventually got in about 4 hours of head-high perfection.  My oldest was feeling much better.  All in all it was a good day.  We all look forward to next year’s ECSC event.

In the beginning...

Hello & welcome to my first blog & post! I am super excited to have finally mustered up the nerve to start this. Both of my boys will be in elementary school this year, hopefully giving me an opportunity to devote some time to it.  Although my posts will primarily revolve around national and local real estate news and trends, I will occasionally sprinkle in other topics that interest me as well, such as; remodeling & design ideas, recipes that look too good to not share, and information on all the great events that take place in my community.  Please, feel free to comment (keep it clean!), post ideas, and share your knowledge for the benefit of us all.  So, with fingers crossed and much enthusiasm, thanks for visiting.  I am going to get this thing kicked off with a post of one of my family's favorite annual events - the East Coast Surfing Championships "ECSC 2010".
